New Guy had the Commander explain to him the situation.
In disbelief, he asked, "You intend to kill one of High Command?"
She nodded and pulled the skiff up higher until New Guy saw Ridley.
The Rendezvous was brief- Ridley and the Commander decided that they would go in through the Commander's office and then into the inner chambers using special codes that only the Commander knew.
New Guy liked her, she was very gung ho.
Ridley broke formation and dipped so that his wingspan was perpendicular to the ground, dropped some fifty feet, righted himself, and decelerated. New Guy saw him grab onto the wall of the building with his talons.
"What is he doing?" New Guy shouted through the wind.
"He's making a window," the Commander said. "My office doesn't have one, you see."
Ridley made a hacking noise and coughed out his plasma ray. He made a circle in the wall and then rammed the flat of his head against the center. The circle collapsed inward. New Guy thought he saw something blue moving around.
The Norfairian, out of talking range, flared his wings twice. The commander dropped the Skiff down. New Guy knew at once the Skiff was not going to make it through the hole. He opened his mouth to speak but the Commander shouted, "Just jump when we pass by!"
New Guy nodded. This sort of thing happened all the time in his line of work.
As Ridley climbed inside of the circle, The Skiff went by. New Guy jumped, and so did the Commander. He landed fine. She did not.
"High Commander!" He said, pulling her to her feet. It was not in Pirate code to protect another, but it was in pirate code to protect oneself. Helping a superior was the same as helping oneself.
Ridley watched Stoically. There was an etecoon on his shoulder, preening itself absently.
The Commander righted herself and looked embarrassed. "I'd actually prefer that you call me Chancellor," she said.
New Guy almost passed out, but he kept himself together. This might mean significant payraises in the future, he assured himself.
Ridley scowled at neither in particular, then spun and slammed down the triple-layer bendizium door with ease. "I'll bring up the rear," he said. This was code for 'Hurry the hell up' and the New Guy knew that it was in his best interest to hurry the hell up. He darted out into the hallway.

The Chancellor went next, switching off her hazard suit and setting up her energy shield. A heavy click no doubt caused by Ridley's claws told her that he was moving quickly behind her.
"I hate these floors," he said angrily.
The Chancellor shot him a "shut the hell up" look. Ridley countered with an "I could eat your face" look.
"Which way?" asked the New Guy.
"Take a left. Here, let me get the door." The Chancellor shoved past and pressed her palm against a scanner and the door slid open. "I'll take the lead now."
New Guy looked as if he might object, but he did not, so the Chancellor continued on, weaving through an intentionally maze-like series of corridors until they got to the meeting room.
The Elder was the only one present. He was surprised to say the least.
The Chancellor grabbed him and pushed him far from the door and gave him the lowdown.
"Remember when we were decided on the Phazon devices and you were against them?"
"Yes, I was arguing my case against the Phazon devices."
"Well, the Slime you were arguing with is working for Dark Samus."
"Most are. I don't follow her, but you know..."
"Yeah? Well Dark Samus tried to kill Ridley."
The face of the Elder grew drawn and worried. "Is that why you've got armor?"
The Chancellor nodded. Ridley coiled in the corner of the room and New Guy moved the central table so that it was more of a shield. A warrior to the core, the Chancellor surmised.

The Elder was not sure what to think or say, only that he wanted that Slime dead.
"You have to get him and take him here," Said the Chancellor. "Tell him that Ridley died and the group is discussing what to do about it. Once he's in this room, lock the door."
"We'll take it from there," said Ridley.
The Elder exchanged looks with the Norfairian, but it did not last. He ran out of the room and went to where he suspected the Slime was waiting.
The first three places he looked were empty, but the fourth held the Slime. He was at a computer terminal having a hushed conversation.
"Commander," said the Elder politely. The Slime looked up. His orange eyes looked around before locking in place where the Elder's heart was. "Commander, The Security Chief is dead. High Command is having an emergency meeting and the Chancellor wants your opinion."
The Slime got up and sprinted past the Elder without a word. The Elder allowed himself a moment to chuckle at the Slime's rush to death.
I'm enjoying this, but I keep underestimating Ridley's size. Every time I proofread I think to myself, "He's bigger than that!" and so I usually have to fix things, yeah.
