Ridley was quite satisfied with the work that Science Team had done with
the Phazon device now grafted to his chest. He was soaring amiably just above the
violent red clouds as they dumped acid rain onto the cities below.
It was dusk. He knew by the green haze in the air and by the way the sun
seemed to be giving up. All five moons were visible. Translated, they were called
"Victory" "Warlord," "Battle," "Legion," "Mastery," and the last was called
"God-King." The latter was the largest and ancient space pirates had assumed that
it commanded the others. Now they knew that it was merely a mass of rock. Its
name had yet to be changed to something more modern, like the kind of names that
ships were given.
Ridley himself did not adhere to names that Pirates gave things. He
actually liked the moon names. The Norfairian's ship was named for the Sun in the
system: "Success."
He did a barrel roll lazily, pausing to hang upside down. He did his best
thinking this way. For a while he thought about what life would be like when the
Pirates ruled the Galaxy. Then his thoughts drifted back to the Phazon Device.
On, he thought at it. The strange kick in his chest made him lose
at least ten yards of altitude.
Then he fired a stream of Phazon into the stars, shutting off the Phazon
device after a few seconds.
He righted himself and coasted in a wide downward spiral towards Security
Pavilion. In the rain, it was difficult to see in great detail, so he flew
slowly.
Aha, he thought upon seeing a familiar perch. He flared his wings
and caught the ledge with all four feet at once. He shook the acid from his wings
and looked about.
From this low perch he could see everyone in Security Pavilion- even
through the rain. His eyesight was comparable to that of an Earth Eagle's, but in
the rain it was significantly less so, more akin to a human's.
Ridley resigned himself to watching the Pirates until he became quite
bored and glided through a hangar window, then traversed some hallways and went
to his 'office.'
There was no desk, no chair, no bookshelf filled with tomes of knowledge.
There was a large one-way window, some infrared lamps (that lit the room for his
eyes but kept it dark for Space Pirates, who could not see as far into the
spectrum as he), and a corner of the room with heated panels.
That was where he curled up and rested.

The Chancellor and the Elder had since parted ways to get back to work.
Unlike Ridley, the Chancellor had a normal (sort of) office. There was a chair-
though it looked nothing like an earth chair because space pirates are harly
comparable to humans, a table, and one of the best computers that the space
pirates had: a Galactic Federation Computer.
The Chancellor believed ever so strongly that it was important to know
one's enemy, and she had read as much about the humans as was possible.
She knew that they could sit with their legs in front of them,
that they could swim without sinking all the way to the bottom, that they were
tremendously vulnerable to extreme weather, and also that each individual had
only two parents.
That last fact disgusted her. Equally gross was the fact that humans ate
plants.
Her etecoon, which she had brought from Zebes, was curled up on her desk,
but she payed him no mind. He had food and water available.
She turned on the computer and entered a few commands. Obviously the
system had been designed for a human- a creature with four fingers. Using
her two-fingered hands she progressed slowly.
She hit the ENTER button and called up GF data on Ridley.
The Chancellor had never read the information on her former CO out of
respect, but her talk with the elder had peaked her interest in the Norfairian.
Translation took a while, but she got enough of what was said to understand that
Ridley was a major threat to the GF.
"To anyone," she muttered to herself with a snort, but kept reading.
Discussed were every sighting as well as a single paragraph at the bottom
that really grabbed the Chancellor's attention. She understood it, but thought
she had mistranslated, and so she read it again.
"He killed The Hunter's parents?" She asked, as if saying it aloud
would make the situation less absurd than it was.
The Chancellor shut off the computer by removing the power cell. She
crossed her arms and glared angrily out her window. It was a hateful thought that
she and The Hunter had anything in common!
But she would admit that they did. Her parents dead at the hands of The
Hunter, and The Hunter's parents dead at the hands of the Space Pirates.
"I should speak to Ridley about this."
This is REALLY fun to write. I'm enjoying it very much.

Again, I'm filling in a lot of blanks with made up stuff, like the moons and their names.
I don't think Ridley would actually be able to fly upside down for too long, but it was too great of a visual to waste, and everyone loves a good "DO A BARREL ROLL" reference.
Etecoons, for those who don't remember, are the blue monkey things from Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.
Hmmm.... oh, and my description of Ridley's eyesight and his landing are entirely theoretical. Mostly based on the way birds of prey land. "Flaring" is the technical term for when a bird brakes by making their wings face so that they basically fight as much wind as possible.
